The University of Western Macedonia and the Hellenic Society of Historians of Education vnder the auspices of the “Greece 2021” Committee are organizing an online conference on April 10th and 11th, 2021 (starting time 10:00) entitled “The war of Independence and the Formation of the Greek State. Contemporary Interpretations”. The conference will feature 21 distinguished speakers and its main goa, is to nightlight and discuss aspects of the Greek rebirth in the light of contemporary interpretations highlighted by historical research. In the context of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution the conference focuses on the preparation and manifestation of the revolutionary struggle and on the institutional. As the President of the Hellenic Society of Historians of Education, Professor Panagiotis Kimourtzis, characteristically states, “In recent years, many historians have written extremely interesting approaches to aspects of the Greek Revolution, the institutional development of the Greek state and the transformations in Greek society. The Conference aims to highlight these studies. Of course, the number of studies that have been produced is much greater and exceeds the capacity of a single conference. However, a selection of them, in a way that covers a wide range of topics, is extremely useful for both the specialist and the general audience. The purpose of the Conference is to present studies that have become books or critical articles. To give the audience that will attend it a condensed picture of the new interpretative approaches suggested by Greek historiography. Young, mainly, but also more experienced researchers, will talk about their research. The audience will have the opportunity to come into contact with this new knowledge that is being produced. This knowledge that relates to our historical past, while at the same time contributing to our creative future. Critical memory that strengthens our will to strive for ever better: this relationship that we must all share is what the Conference wants to highlight.”
